The Real Difference

What the price difference actually buys.

Surfline SL chain drivetrain close-up

Chain + Manual

Light, honest, fixable anywhere.

Chain drive is the real-world choice. Any bike shop in any town can service it, order parts, or replace the chain — no proprietary system, no dealer required. Available as a whisper-quiet single-speed for coast-and-cruise days, or a 5-speed for riders who want efficiency across the full range. Either way, you're getting a lighter bike with every input exactly where you expect it.

Surfline Auto belt drivetrain close-up

Belt + Auto

Set it and forget it.

The automatic hub shifts for you — better low-end torque on climbs, smooth top-end speed on the flats, and the right gear every time without thinking about it. The belt drive underneath needs no lube, no tension checks, no maintenance windows. It's heavier than the SL — the gear mechanism and motor add real weight — but for riders who want to just ride, that tradeoff disappears fast.
