Surfline Auto

The Auto uses an internal automatic hub that senses your speed and load, selecting the optimal gear on its own — the same concept as an automatic car. There's no shifter on the bar. It gives you better low-end torque from a stop and on hills, and lets you hold efficient speed on flat ground without any input. You just ride.

Almost entirely. Belt drives don't stretch, don't need lubrication, and don't collect grime the way a chain does. Under normal riding conditions, a belt lasts 3–5x longer than a chain before it needs replacement. There's no lube schedule, no chain cleaning — it's one less thing to think about.

The automatic hub itself is significantly heavier than a standard rear hub or derailleur system — the gears and shift mechanism all live inside it, and the motor that drives it is heavier-duty as well. The Auto comes in around 85 lbs compared to 75 lbs for the SL. The trade-off is total effortlessness on every ride.

The price difference reflects two premium systems: the belt drive and the Bafang A.510 automatic transmission hub. Both are more expensive to source and build than a standard chain drivetrain. The result is a bike that requires almost no mechanical maintenance and rides completely on its own terms.

The Surfline Auto is configured as a Class 2 e-bike with throttle and pedal assist governed to 20 mph. Class 2 e-bikes are allowed in many bike-friendly areas, but rules vary by state, city, trail system, park, and land manager. Always check local regulations before riding.

Our rated range is up to 60 miles based on flat terrain, moderate assist, and a 175 lb rider. Real-world range varies with rider weight, assist level, terrain, and temperature. The Auto's extra weight may reduce range slightly at higher assist levels — most riders see 35–50 miles per charge in mixed conditions.

30-day returns. Contact us within 30 days of delivery and we'll arrange a pickup. Bike must be in original, undamaged condition. Return shipping fees may apply.

The Surfline Auto comes with a 2-year warranty on the frame, motor, battery, and belt drive under normal use. Consumables (tires, brake pads) are not covered. Extended warranty options available at checkout.
